what difference does the weight of the fly reel really make?

Long discussions about a gram here and there, and some love light weight reels, other does love heavier, and actually use counter weights on their rods...me?...well I cant say I ever put much thought in the matter before. So I dug out some of my own old reels with 5 lines to check if my own opinion changed :D Let me know your thoughts in the comment section!
